Introducing MACLEANS® Multi Action Sugar Acid Protection toothpastes

The MACLEANS® brand has always aimed to be there to help with the dental health of the family.

Meet Captain Macleans

In a world where sugar is everywhere, even ‘hidden’ in our everyday foods, comes a new superhero in tooth protection: Captain Macleans!  He’s in the right place at the right time and he is proud to share his secret weapon with you. Captain Macleans uses Macleans Multi Action with fluoride for Sugar Acid Protection to strengthen and actively defend teeth from everyday sugars.  His mission is clear: help defend against sugar acid attacks and give Australians a reason to smile.

What is it and how does it work?
MACLEANS® Sugar Acid Protection toothpastes provide self defence for teeth. They contain fluoride that works by binding to the enamel to help defend the teeth against sugar acid attack. The fluoride helps prevent cavities by drawing new minerals into the tooth, leaving it stronger than before.

Key facts about Sugar Acid Protection

Why do I need Sugar Acid Protection?
We all enjoy a bit of sugar, however too much of it in our diets can threaten the health of our teeth. Studies have shown that not only have our eating habits changed over time, but the types of foods we are eating have changed too. Sugar has become ever more present, and so it’s important to understand how to protect our teeth against sugar acid attack and tooth decay.

What does sugar do to my teeth?
Sugar is used by bacteria in the mouth and produces acids, which can dissolve the protective minerals in the surface of the tooth. In time, the sugar acid can dissolve mineral from the tooth, leading to cavities.

How can I limit the impact of sugar on my teeth?
As a simple rule, the less sugar you eat, the lower your risk of cavities. We all know that cakes and sweets contain sugar, but ‘hidden’ sugar can also be found in foods that we wouldn’t expect. It is the fact that these sugars are hidden, that make them so surprising. Three types of foods that can increase sugar in our diet are as follows:

  • Sweet items such as confectionary, cakes and pastries
  • Processed foods that contain added sugar such as cereals and cooking sauces
  • Foods containing complex carbohydrates such as bread and pasta, which can release sugars in your mouth

For protection against these surprising and everyday sugars we recommend  MACLEANS® with flouride for Sugar Acid Protection toothpastes.
